Silver Linings Playbook - my review

Ok now i know all I am posting lately is only movie reviews ... so I thought this time .. I shall narrate the story  of this one .. or atleast the summary for all my readers .

hmmm so Pat Solitano Jr. (Bradley Cooper), who has bipolar disorder (in very few scenes), is released from a mental health facility into the care of his parents (who appear more scary than him) after eight months of treatment. Pat soon learns that his wife, Nikki is basically a horny bitch and, has moved away (with no matter who) and his father, Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro), is out of work and resorting to bookmaking to earn money to start a restaurant. Yeah beat that! Misery from all ends

But its not only he, who is in a mess!! Tiffany Maxwell (Jennifer Lawrence), a recent widow, who also just lost her job and  has a slutty past, meets Pat at a friend’s place … and Pat (determined to get his life back on track and reconcile with Nikki, who obtained a restraining order against him after a violent episode) can’t help but check out Tiffany’s boobs … to which Tiffany  offers Pat to be her dancing partner, in an upcoming dance competition and also promises to deliver his letter to Nikki.

The rest of the movie shows how Pat’s Father (who ironically considers Pat to be his good luck charm ) makes a parlay with his gambling friend about the dance competition and an Eagles game  - and how Pat  with tiffany’s help manages to save his pops ass !! and How Tiffany manages to get Pat ! 

Anupam Kher plays Pats therapist Dr. Patel and gets beaten up by a few racist thugs during some game.. lol   - he does not get much screen time or importance … I personally feel a quality actor like him shouldn’t have taken up such a role just for another Hollywood tag.

Anyways I liked the movie, It was fun .. Had a Pleasant Sunday afternoon ... and then they say its not a bad movie as I've described it!  Darling Wikipedia says : "Silver Linings Playbook premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2012, and was released in the United States on November 16, 2012. The film opened to major critical success and earned numerous accolades. It received eightAcademy Award nominations, achieving the rare feat of being nominated in all four acting categories, the first time since Reds in 1981, and also being nominated for the Big Five, the first time since Million Dollar Baby in 2004, with Lawrence winning the Academy Award for Best Actress. It also achieved four Golden Globe Award nominations, with Lawrence winning Best Actress; three BAFTA nominations, with Russell winning for Best Adapted Screenplay; four Screen Actors Guild nominations, with Lawrence winning Best Actress; and five Independent Spirit Award nominations, winning in four categories including Best Film and Best Actress".

David - my review

'David' is as we all know Bejoy Nambiar's second feature film after 'Shaitan' [now for those of you'l who didnt watch shaitan, plz go ahead and watch.... its something you'd remember Nambiar for]

 Now David is a story of 3 Davids, none of who's stories are well written or have any message or any relation with each other or the audience whatsoever..  However having said that, Individual performances are fab and inspite of a weak story .. Nambiar's efforts and skills are not unnoticed. 

Vikram in his role as one of the Davids is the best. Neil Nitin Mukesh's story was damn confusing and my friends found Vinay Virmani cute. Besides these main characters I found Milind Soman in a totally useless character, he hardly has any screen time .. for that matter even hardly any dialogues.  Isha Sharvani and Tabu are impressive and Lara Dutta is also there in the movie (lol).
Nassar as Father Noel and Ram Kapoor as Iqbal Ghani do justice to their characters and Saurabh Shukla as Vikram's dead dad is hilarious.

Things to watch out for: Satku Santa and a few really funny one liners

“Oh yes that’s true!! The other guy who married Janice went abroad to work; it’s more than 5 years now he is not back. They say he works less on the office table and more on Lori, his boss” pointed out mom wisely.

“But meet him atleast once!!!”

“But dad he loves me, I’l adjust!” cried Sonia

“Love!!!! What do you kids know about love!??” yelled fuming dad, “As though we never loved.. Our Love was fucking? And your fucking is love?? Wah!!”

“Dad!! It’s not that way ” Sonia was in tears, “please understand a job is a job.. And then he is a good cleaner he might get promotion soon”

“Yeah?  ... and what will he become then?? Head Cleaner of his department??”

“Is that all matters?”

 “But Bhavesh! I can’t do it .. I’ve already screwed the entrance test… even if I get through I don’t think ill manage to get a seat in your institute and if that doesn’t happen, what’s the point of doing M.S. We won’t even be able to tell your parents we met at the same insti  … and anyways I am pretty bad at studies you know na… ”

“Yes I know, but my folks want M.S. what can I do?”

“When I was in the 5^th standard.  I joined tuitions; that sir they said was awesome and had many students..  after 2 yrs I was still in the 5^th and that guy had no students….  then next year he said he’l pay me if I stop coming for tuitions  … you know this na Bhavesh? Still you want me to do MS? ”

“But baby I can’t help it. My great grandfathers father once cheated in the exams in his school days… he was caught and punished… not only that, later some locals caught him like a rat and tattooed his hand  -  ‘mera baap nahi, mein cheater hoon ’ … from that day onwards he pledged on his pet cat Jammuna  that everyone in his family would study and get big degrees  without cheating”

“I donno what to say ” Sighed Payal

There are some who eat to live and there are those who live to eat. I proudly belong to the second category coz I love to frequently indulge in gluttony. I share this passion with my bestie William, who has sweetly asked me to be a guest blogger and is constantly encouraging me to blog myself.

Food is and will always have a special place in our lives. Birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, celebrations big and small are incomplete without delectable delights and what makes it special is sharing it with the ones we love.

It’s a foodie’s dream to have a seven course meal - apetisers, soups, sorbets, fish, meats, mouth watering deserts with fine table service. (Snap me out of this quick….. pls!!!). Hmmmm fine dining may be a luxury but who says that good food only comes with white glove service and an inflated bill. Any true Mumbaikar knows that street food is an essential to a food lover’s diet. Be it the Indianized Chinese, South Indian spread, sandwiches or local wada pav. Street food sure makes binging more affordable.

The best part of being a foodie is that we create memories with the people we grab a bite with. I can never forget the fun I had with my besties eating Kheema Pav at Metro Café, fish fingers and chips at Mondegar’s, Chicken wontons at Leopold’s, Chicken Chilly at Gokul’s, Chicken Crispies at Café Churchgate, Pav Bhaji at Liberty, Kebab Platter at Delhi Darbar, Sizzlers at Kobe’s, Sandwich near Nirmala Niketan, Burgers and McDonalds and the latest Chicken Koliwada on Eid. I could go on and on. Please note I am not endorsing any restaurants. They are just my favourite foods, at favourite places with my favourite people.

So while I hope to continue pampering my taste buds, I wish everyone a great palate and great pals. Cheers!!!

he will laugh at u ...LOL.. i mean he will make u laugh..His laughter is pervasive
Evn in tense situation he is smiling,really need to appreciate him for this...I think no one can put on any barriers to his laughter...LOl

William is a very good nd close frnd of mine.
We all know him as a jolly-good fellow...always chilled out...always smile on his face...loves 2 laugh nd makes tym pass pleasurably for all of us..we all love 2 be wid him 4 he can easily lighten our moods no matter how heavy we feel.
Though only few of us know dat he has a serious side of his Also...whr in he plans his dreams...mark his goals...nd den work hard 2 achieve dem.

He is dis rap music fan who loves 2 dress up in da same manner..evn in da college.
Guts nah..but dat is wat Outshines him in da crowd...Always listen 2 his heart nd follows it.

WILLIAM.......as ur'll guys all know how much multi talented he is; but i guess he dosnt like any1 prasing him so much...well dis adds 1 more quality.
He's very cool....fun-lovin guy and very down 2 earth, m really proud 2 b his frnd. Whenevr i chat wit him he always makes me laugh.......
Well he also has WHITE SHINING TEETH, n he lks 2 show his teeth every now n den....specially wen he wants 2 impress sum 1.......n 4 ur kind information i also got impressed by his so called "WHITE SHINING TEETH"...ha ha ha

William is a great friend........we happened to meet at sinhal's and i can assure u that when he is around even the boring lectures start to sound interesting(of course bcoz of his funny remarks).........we have enjoyed so much at sinhal's.....specially after the lectures in the morning........we used to go exploring new roads and he used to yell at me........."I Will be missing my lectures if we don't get back to college on time...." and i used to ask him......."do u really attend lectures and he used to say......"No re i was talking about my Basketball sessions......" but really he is a wonderful guy......his heart is as clear as crystal.......and he will never hurt you...in any way........Keep Going WILLIAM

William ...now there's a guy whom you can call 'Uncle'..he's mature in a jovial way...will get into fights but a kind soul who can break your bones and say sorry...that's very sweet...so he does not have enemies cause they like him too for his frankness....a totally dependable guy..chilled out..full of vigour and vitamins...and minerals....he's a sports star...and a basketball junkie. A fierce competitor against the D'silva brothers...his agility, swiftness and some super moves like the 'Falcon Strike' are his strengths...he's got some moves up his sleeve to lead the team to victory! ... i first met him in xaviers in 6th, wen i joined xaviers, he was my first bench mate, gave me a feel of d xaviers wen i was new to xaviers!!

William is gem of person!! ... very humble, kind and very friendly and soft spoken and fun loving !!

Good in sports and studies.. yeah i enjoied his company wen we together in wilson!! i miss all thoz wilson dayzz........... and i must say he is very good at cricket too and wicket keeping (remeber??) :-) .... i got to know this in wilson.....coz i always thought he must b a football crazy!!!...but damn good at basketball!! .......
May all your dreams come true…… and remain as you are!! Great to be your friend willy!!

Les Misérables - my review

OH well no! this year I am not going to blog only about Movies..  there are a few posts in the making ... but then I watched this movie and would like to write about it ... huh ?? arey its my blog yaar !! I can write about anyone !! (yes indeed i have applied for a bail)

ok so to start with .. its a Musical! But beware: it's not strictly a musical. There's no dancing, there are no jazz hands and there is next to no speech. Rather, it is lobotomized opera, in which incidental dialogues appear !

I was impressed when I read a post that said director Hooper's big innovation is that his actors sing "live" – that is, they taped the vocal tracks while shooting, rather than in post-production – to amp up the realism

well I had good time... some nice popcorn , pepsi and comfy seats at Metro (marine lines, mumbai), good company... {also we went for the morning show so the tickets cost less}. Although it was hard to sit for a musical without getting bored ... I did have a good time



So would like to end this by mentioning a review from 'Rotten tomatoes' {yeah I know you'l need an second opinion with a lot of technical details... }

Table no 21 - my review

haha ok well on a serious note, it was indeed a different movie, with a good message and well many good acting performances. ... Paresh Rawal in a negative role is always entertaining. Infact I kinda love negative roles. I am a big fan of Gabbar Singh (sholay),Din Dayal/LION (Kalicharan), Mogambo (Mr.India), Dr. Dang (Karma), Gulshan Grover, Ranjeet, Shakti kapoor... anyways lets not diviate from the topic.

Rajeev Khandelwal's choice of movies is worth applauding. The actor cannot be accused of getting repetitive since his choice of movies has been as diverse as chalk and cheese.

overall i had nothing to do one afternoon and so went and watched it with a sweet friend ... we liked it and thats about it.

The movie has a social message  and well the actress looks hot .. ah.. . supa hot !

i cant believe i am typing all this when i am in class!! no wonder my students get good marks in their exams = I hardly teach !!
